3 Rules to Pick Your Niche

pick your niche

You want to start your own business, blog, SOMETHING, but you do not know what to choose. You are so talented and have many hobbies and want to share it all with the world! Trust me, I get it. Especially if you are a woman. We are already preprogrammed to juggle a million things all at once, how can we possibly pick just ONE thing.

My Number One Tip

My NUMBER ONE tip when building a business is to build deep, and then expand wide. Your audience needs to TRUST you first, before they buy in to you.

3 Rules to Pick Your Niche

1. Identify Your Passion

If you haven’t heard this phrase yet, now you have: Riches are in niches. That means you need to prove that you are the EXPERT in what you are telling people about. The more specific the better. One of my absolute favorite people in the world started a blog called She Likes Greens. This started as a vegan food journey, but now she posts about vegan food for her twin babies. She is even more specific than she was when she started and her audience is finding her!

2. Have one more level of success more than your customer

You need to answer the question: why are people coming to you? They are coming to you because you know something they don’t know. You are already a couple of steps ahead of them, and they want to get to where you are! That means:

  • NO – You don’t need to be an expert
  • NO – You don’t have to be world class!! You just have to be better than somebody
  • NO – You don’t need 10,000 hours of studying before you can teach

What makes you successful is understanding what percentage of the market you know more about your identified niche. It can be as easy as this: you are a jewelry maker with just under $50k in revenue. You are not a huge company like Kendra Scott, but you are selling at a consistent level. Your audience is the group of people who make $0 – $50k in revenue. You have something to teach them!! How to reach $50k as a jewelry designer.

3. Start small!!! You must start somewhere

Just get started. Period. Sad people need results, NOW.

HAPPY People = MOST INFORMATION + SHORT AMOUNT OF TIME

Think about how do you get the most amount of information in the shortest amount of time to your audience? Our attention spans are like grasshoppers, or whatever the saying is. Your population will want the BEST but minimum viable product (MVP) that you can give them.

Example) you tell them that you can give them a 15-page book with workbook pages for them to see a result in 7 days. Your audience will have a to do check list and know what to expect after completing that checklist. Simple, easy wah lah!

Don’t forget, this key thing. People who feel ‘incomplete’ or ‘inadequate’ or ‘sad’ NEED results, and they want results, well yesterday.

Long story endless, create your first product, make it quick and easy with quick results to initially draw in your ideal customer!

BONUS: Every niche has $1MM potential – you just have to do the shortcut to get there fast. HINT: that shortcut is hard work and playing the long game but more on that in another post.
