Sarah Leary might have my actual dream job, a social networking entrepreneur, investor in entrepreneurs, and a leader in the technology industry. In fact, is Sarah Leary my dream person? She co-founded an incredible successful company that so many people use, she is brilliant, she helps other entrepreneurs, not to mention, she graduated from Harvard with a BA and an MBA!
Who is Sarah Leary
Sarah Leary is Co-Founder and Vice President of Marketing and Operations at Nextdoor – a unicorn company. ICYMI, a unicorn company means that the company has reached a billion dollar valuation. Nextdoor is a free and private network for neighborhoods. She also is on the Unusual Venture Capital team.
Also, just guessing here, according to her Twitter bio, she says ITA (does that mean she is Italian, because me too) and she says GSD (does that mean she loves German Shepherd Dogs, because, SAME!! I HAVE the BEST GSD EVER).
Her Business
Sarah Leary most notably is the co-founder of Nextdoor, founded in 2010 by a group of people. The startup raised $18.6 million in its first round of funding in 2011, led by Greylock Partners and Benchmark. They also raised $60 million in a series C round in 2013. Like many startups, they faced some challenges with user adaption and engagement. Now they have over 10 million registered users with a $2.1 billion valuation. Now Nextdoor has connected neighbors with one another to share information and build a sense of community.
Something that sticks out to me about this startup, is that the entire group of people is given credit for this idea, not just one person. As independent as I like to be, I know that having a team around you with different skill sets offers huge value to the end product.
Allison’s Thoughts
Sarah Leary is goals. Bottom line. Her entrepreneurial success is coveted, her business acumen is top notch, and I think I would have a great talking it up at coffee or something.
I love her quote on in the Unusual website. She is clear with her personal mission to invest in entrepreneurs at their journey, not at the journey of the firm taht invests!
